One Community Health is honored to recognize Dr. Olivia Kasirye as she retires from her role as Sacramento County Public Health Officer, concluding a remarkable career dedicated to improving the health and well-being of our community.
Dr. Kasirye has been a respected leader in public health throughout the Sacramento region. After joining Sacramento County in 2004 and later returning to lead Sacramento County Public Health in 2012, she helped guide the organization through significant public health challenges while keeping community health, prevention, and equity at the forefront of her work.
Her leadership was defined by a clear vision for the future of public health. Among her priorities were strengthening disease response systems, reducing health disparities, building a resilient workforce, addressing the opioid epidemic, and achieving national public health accreditation. Under her direction, Sacramento County Public Health earned national accreditation in 2024, a significant milestone that reflects years of dedication and commitment to excellence in public health practice.
Throughout her career, Dr. Kasirye has also demonstrated a deep commitment to HIV advocacy and community partnerships. Her dedication to advancing health outcomes for vulnerable populations aligns closely with the mission-driven work that organizations across our region, including One Community Health, strive to accomplish every day.
In announcing her retirement, Dr. Kasirye reflected on the privilege of serving Sacramento County and expressed gratitude for the community and public health professionals who inspired her work. As she transitions into retirement, she continues to exemplify servant leadership by supporting the onboarding of Sacramento County’s next Public Health Officer.
Dr. Kasirye leaves behind a legacy of collaboration, compassion, and public service that will continue to benefit our region for years to come.
